Cataracts

Just like grey hair, cataracts occur in everyone.  Usually cataracts occur as we get older, but do not be surprised if you see some younger patients around the office who have had successful cataract surgery, too.  Most cataract surgery is performed on an outpatient basis at our state-of-the-art Shrewsbury Surgery Center.

Shrewsbury Surgery Center is conveniently located across the street from our office and specializes in cataract surgery.  I personally don’t care to perform my cataract operations any where else!

Symptoms of Cataract

Common symptoms of cataract include blurry vision, glare, decreased color vision, dim vision requiring more light and sometimes ghosting (double vision from one eye) or even blindness.

Traditional cataract surgery has helped millions of patients stop the debilitating effects of cataracts and save their eyesight. Now, an innovative and revolutionary cataract surgery technique offers no sutures and quick recovery.

We also offer laser cataract surgery – the most advanced and safest method of removing cataracts.

Cataract Implants | Intraocular Lens

In almost all patients, we will remove the cataract and replace with an intraocular lens.  In highly nearsighted individuals, cases of eye trauma or certain eye diseases, placement of an intraocular lens may not be wise.  We can determine the exact power and strength of the intraocular lens which will restore your vision during your pre-operative cataract evaluation.

Experienced Eye Surgeons

Drs. Macdonald and Cheng have successfully done over 20,000 cataract surgeries with intraocular lens implants. They will discuss all options to suit your needs.  We offer a variety of IOLs (intraocular lenses)  including monovision, multifocal implants (Crystalens, Restor) and astigmatic correcting (toric) implants.

Anesthesia may be topical only with only drops used, or mild intravenous sedation for those who prefer not to be aware of the surgery. Please write or call us with any questions you have.

Most cataract surgery is covered by insurance.
